Mount Stuart Hospital

St Vincent's Rd, Torquay TQ1 4UP, UK – 01803 313881

My first stay at Mount Stuart Hospital began with a nerve wracking attendance for surgery. Mr Barrington and his team were absolutely amazing. I want to thank them all for being so kind, gentle and understanding as well, of course for their total professionalism. In the course of my recovery I was cared for by a fabulous Nurse called Claudia Van Der Glok. Her compassion and thoughtfulness very definitely helped me to cope with everything. I can't thank you enough Claudia.... or thank you all, for making an unpleasant episode in my life more bearable.

It's nice to be moved through the treatment process quickly and in clean, modern, comfortable surroundings. Staff are friendly and you really feel you are being properly cared for. Food is excellent, rooms are well equipped. Parking is inadequate though and there are a few rough edges but it is (as you would expect) a much more pleasant experience than you'll get in a NHS hospital. The stupid part is the NHS paid for my treatment, which clearly means they have the funding but it isn't being used appropriately in their own hospitals. Don't get me wrong, I think NHS staff are brilliant - but there are too many chiefs and not enough injuns in the NHS. Mount Stewart have the luxury of not having to deal with all the drunks, druggies and other undesirables that clog-up and rip-off our NHS, or with ridiculously inefficient bureaucracy and record-keeping. So yes, if you have the opportunity to get treatment at Mount Stewart you'd be a fool not to take it.

Torbay Hospital

Lowes Bridge, Torquay TQ2 7AA, UK – 01803 614567

Good hospital but obviously overstretched, some staff try to be attentive, others just seem to not be bothered unless reminded. A family relative was in there for 3 months, and was sent home twice, only to be readmitted the first time after two weeks, the second time they where send home too early, and in the late hours of the night had to be taken back by ambulance. Another issues seems to be that some wards get meals direct from the kitchen, yet other wards have ready meals? How does this help patients to get better? Overall a good hospital, but faces many pressures and issues that are across the NHS. Thank you to all of the staff for your hard work, care and kindness.

Had to visit AMU a number of times for ongoing issue, was very well taken care of by the excellent staff - very attentive and patient, professional attitude and mindful. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Local hospitals - community hospitals and hospitals with A&E departments for TQ1 1HQ.

The new NHS website below is very well worth a look. Hospitals are not only listed but evaluated. I certainly know which ones I would go to! At the very least you will know what questions to ask if you are sent to one which has not entered its data. Good luck!
